You know if you believed that the state should have no connection with marriage then I think even the majority of same-sex couples would be overwhelmingly happy. Because there is a good portion of churches in the world that would marry them. (And for the others: She's right about marriage between a Jewish thing. The first recorded marriage was between a Jewish man and a fourteen year old girl. He paid ... I think it's six... cows for her. So obviously marriage has come a long way since then tho)

Which is why I think the gay marriage issue need not be as huge a deal as it is, if dealt with properly. The only reason it’s caused such a schism is because the government stuck its nose where it doesn’t belong. And now we’re facing the consequences. But because the government has made it a governmental issue, we are forced to vote governmentally about it. And that sucks.
(Different cultures determine different age limits, ceremonies, monetary requirements, etc. of marriage. And even America today requires money to get a marriage license, which would be the equivalent of paying cows in those times. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t the union between a man and a woman…which is the definition.)
