Your argument against "illegal abortions would happen anyway" basically is the perfect argument for gun control, which violates our Constitution.

Except that illegalizing abortions does prevent the loss of innocent human lives. It greatly helps the problem. Illegalizing or limiting the right to bear arms makes the problem worse. Criminals won’t heed the law, but law-abiding citizens will be helpless to defend themselves. It creates a flock of helpless sheep surrounded by wolves. One town in Georgia required all men to carry a side arm. Crime plummeted dramatically. Everywhere strict gun laws are enforced has a huge crime problem.
And abortions aren’t a right in the Constitution. So there’s that.
